Ffestiniog Railway 4 Ton Open Goods Wagon 97 Kit

£34.95

The 4 ton open goods wagon was one of the most prominent vehicles that featured in Ffestiniog Railway goods trained. In early days, they were often sheeted over, but as time went on there is less evidence of the sheets being used. After researching many photographs of these vehicles, we found that almost every vehicle was different. We have developed two kits, which are almost the same, the only difference being the types of door hinges. On wagon 126, the fixed part of the hinge is bent 90 degrees and is attached directly to a supporting angle on the end of the wagon. Wagon 97 has no end angle on the door end, but has bent hinges and a steel brace between the two fixed parts of the hinges. The dimensions for this kit were taken from the surviving 4 ton open goods wagon and where possible, similar components from other wagons for Wagon 97.

Description

The kit compromises of laser cut plywood parts for the main body and the frames are a FDM 3D Print.

Additional detailing is achieved by FDM printed detailing parts. The running gear is standard Binnie wheels, with steel axles and a set of our custom CNC machined brass bearings.

Each part of the kit has been produced by a process that is optimised for that part.

The dimensions below are all maximum dimensions, so over couplings for the length and over any detailing parts on the outside for the width. The height is from the top of the rail, to the highest part of the vehicle.

Length – 192mm
Width – 83mm
Height – 88mm
Coupling Height – 25mm
Gauge – 32mm

The kit contains everything you need to build the wagon, including our detailed and illustrated instructions. The only thing the kit does not contain is any paints and adhesives.

As with all of our kits, this has been designed to be a straight forward kit to build, perfect for beginners. It can be built and assembled as supplied to be a great representation of one of the 4 ton open goods wagons, or it can be “super-detailed” to add even more realism to your model.
