Ffestiniog Railway Granite Wagon Kit

Price range: £22.95 through £139.95

The Ffestiniog Railway converted 24 of the 3 ton slate wagons to carry granite chippings by extending the body up, fitting a end-discharge door and fitting planks on the inside of the wagon to contain the load. The majority of the wagons were un-braked and converted from the first batch of Brown Marshall wagons that were supplied to the railway in 1868.

The railway modified these slate wagons between 1911 and 1919 for use by the Brooke’s Quarry in Tanygrisiau.

Description

The kit compromises of 3D Printed parts, with the axleboxes being printed in resin and the rest of the kit in FDM. The wooden body panels are made from laser cut plywood.

The running gear is standard Binnie wheels, with steel axles and a set of our custom CNC machined brass bearings. There is also the option to upgrade to our CNC machined steel wheels.

Each part of the kit has been produced by a process that is optimised for that part.

The dimensions below are all maximum dimensions, so over couplings for the length and over any detailing parts on the outside for the width. The height is from the top of the rail, to the highest part of the vehicle.

Length – 124mm
Width – 67mm
Height – 62mm
Coupling Height – 25mm
Gauge – 32mm

The kit contains everything you need to build a 3 Ton Granite Wagon, including our detailed and illustrated instructions. The only thing the kit does not contain is any paints and adhesives.

As with all of our kits, this has been designed to be a straight forward kit to build, perfect for beginners. It can be built and assembled as supplied to be a great representation of one of the granite wagons, or it can be “super-detailed” to add even more realism to your model.

Information about this wagon and similar vehicles can be found on the Festipedia site here.

Images of the van can be found on the Ffestiniog Railway Heritage Group’s Ibase website.

The demonstration model is painted in Halfords Grey Primer, with a coat of Rustoleum Semi-Gloss Clear Coat.

Decals for this wagon are available at Endon Valley Custom Decals.
