Ffestiniog Railway Vented Goods Van

Price range: £34.95 through £41.95

This van was converted from a Type 2 Quarryman carriage, sometime before 1901. Although not  the only converted Mk2 Quarryman, the vehicle is unique in the FR fleet and is only known to appear in one photograph. The details of the door is an assumption based on the other Mk2 Quarryman conversions (Hearse Van and Brakedown Van).

Description

The kit compromises of laser cut plywood parts for the main body and the frames are a FDM 3D Print.

Additional detailing is achieved by resin printed detailing parts. The running gear is standard Binnie wheels, with steel axles and a set of our custom CNC machined brass bearings. There is also the option to upgrade to our CNC machined steel wheels.

Each part of the kit has been produced by a process that is optimised for that part.

The dimensions below are all maximum dimensions, so over couplings for the length and over any detailing parts on the outside for the width. The height is from the top of the rail, to the highest part of the vehicle.

Length – 154mm
Width – 79mm
Height – 105mm
Coupling Height – 25mm
Gauge – 32mm

The kit contains everything you need to build the van, including our detailed and illustrated instructions. The only thing the kit does not contain is any paints and adhesives.

As with all of our kits, this has been designed to be a straight forward kit to build, perfect for beginners. It can be built and assembled as supplied to be a great representation of the Vented Goods Van, or it can be “super-detailed” to add even more realism to your model, although, having said that, there doesn’t seem to be much more detail to add!

Although there is little to no information about this van available, information about similar vehicles can be found on the Festipedia site here.

Images of the van can be found on the Ffestiniog Railway Heritage Group’s Ibase website. iBase ID: 1438.

The demonstration model is painted in Tetrion Grey Primer, with a coat of Rustoleum Semi-Gloss Clear Coat. The roof is painted with Rustoleum Gunmetal spray paint.
