Ffestiniog Railway Van 116 Kit

£44.95

These small vans were built in the late 1880s and were converted from the 4 Ton Open Goods Wagons. They were used to transport all sorts of goods around the railway, a frequent use seems to be flour traffic from the mill at Snowdon Street to the bakery next to Penrhyn Station. The dimensions for this kit were taken from the only surviving vehicle of this type, which is Van 99 on the Ffestiniog Railway. We previously released a kit for this van, which is why we have upgraded the kit and named it after the old-company number for this vehicle.

** Product images will be updated once I’ve completed the model!** which i hope will be on the 02/01/2026

Description

The kit compromises of laser cut plywood parts for the main body and the frames are a FDM 3D Print.

Additional detailing is achieved by FDM printed detailing parts. The running gear is standard Binnie wheels, with steel axles and a set of our custom CNC machined brass bearings.

Each part of the kit has been produced by a process that is optimised for that part.

The dimensions below are all maximum dimensions, so over couplings for the length and over any detailing parts on the outside for the width. The height is from the top of the rail, to the highest part of the vehicle.

Length – 193mm
Width – 86mm
Height – 118m
Coupling Height – 25mm
Gauge – 32mm

The kit contains everything you need to build the van, including our detailed and illustrated instructions. The only thing the kit does not contain is any paints and adhesives.

As with all of our kits, this has been designed to be a straight forward kit to build, perfect for beginners. It can be built and assembled as supplied to be a great representation of the FR side door vans, or it can be “super-detailed” to add even more realism to your model.

Additional information about these wagons can be found on the Festipedia site here.

Images of the van can be found on the Ffestiniog Railway Heritage Group’s Ibase website.

The demonstration model is painted in Rustoleum’s Red Oxide primer, with a coat of Rustoleum Semi-Gloss Clear Coat. The roof is painted with Tetrion Satin Black paint.
