Ffestiniog Hearse Van

Price range: £39.95 through £46.95

The Ffestiniog Railway’s hearse van was converted from a Type 2 Quarryman carriage, sometime between July 1885 and June 1886. The vehicle is unique in the FR fleet and is evidently a conversion of a quarryman’s carriage, however, it also has the oddity of having a curved headstocks, which the quarryman carriages did not have.

Description

The kit compromises of laser cut plywood parts for the main body and the frames are a FDM 3D Print. The distinctive curved headstocks of the hearse van is achieved by our method of 3D Printing a base and attaching a plywood body to it. The urns in each corner of the roof are a resin 3D print, reinforced with a metal rod. The rod is held underneath the roof by a 3D printed holder, which ensures the urns are held in the correct position and securely.

Additional detailing is achieved by resin printed detailing parts. The running gear is standard Binnie wheels, with steel axles and a set of our custom CNC machined brass bearings. There is also the option to upgrade to our CNC machined steel wheels.

Each part of the kit has been produced by a process that is optimised for that part.

The dimensions below are all maximum dimensions, so over couplings for the length and over any detailing parts on the outside for the width. The height is from the top of the rail, to the highest part of the vehicle.

Length – 154mm
Width – 79mm
Height – 105mm
Coupling Height – 25mm
Gauge – 32mm

The kit contains everything you need to build the van, including our detailed and illustrated instructions. The only thing the kit does not contain is any paints and adhesives.

As with all of our kits, this has been designed to be a straight forward kit to build, perfect for beginners. It can be built and assembled as supplied to be a great representation of the FR hearse van, or it can be “super-detailed” to add even more realism to your model, although, having said that, there is no more detail to add!

Additional information about this van can be found on the Festipedia site here.

Images of the van can be found on the Ffestiniog Railway Heritage Group’s Ibase website.

The demonstration model is painted in Tetrion Gloss Black, with a coat of Rustoleum Gloss Clear Coat. The roof is painted with Rustoleum Gunmetal spray paint.
