Ffestiniog Railway Quarryman Mk2a with Window

£25.95

These carriages were built from the mid-1870s and were in use until 1889. By 1889, the majority of these carriages had been converted to Mk2b carriages by adding doors and windows. A replica of one of these carriages, Number 33, was finished in 2013 and the dimensions for this kit was taken off of that carriage.

Description

The kit compromises of laser cut plywood parts for the main body and frames. The roof is made from a sheet of thin PETG (plastic) to represent the galvanised sheet steel roof the carriages originally had.

Additional detailing is achieved by FDM printed detailing parts. The running gear is standard Binnie wheels, with steel axles and a set of our custom CNC machined brass bearings

Each part of the kit has been produced by a process that is optimised for that part.

The dimensions below are all maximum dimensions, so over couplings for the length and over any detailing parts on the outside for the width. The height is from the top of the rail, to the highest part of the vehicle.

Length – 150mm
Width – 80mm
Height – 100mm
Coupling Height – 25mm
Gauge – 32mm

The kit contains everything you need to build the carriage, including our detailed and illustrated instructions. The only thing the kit does not contain is any paints and adhesives.

As with all of our kits, this has been designed to be a straight forward kit to build, perfect for beginners. It can be built and assembled as supplied to be a great representation of the FR quarryman carriages, or it can be “super-detailed” to add even more realism to your model.

Additional information about these wagons can be found on the Festipedia site here.

Images of these can be found on the Ffestiniog Railway Heritage Group’s Ibase website.

The demonstration model is painted in Rustoleum’s Red Oxide primer, with a coat of Gloss Clear Coat from the same manufacturer.
