7/8″ Scale FR Wooden Bolster Wagons Kit

£44.95

These wagons were built by the Ffestiniog Railway in the 1870s to carry long items along the railway. They were designed by Charles Spooner. They were deliberately set high to allow the load to span over a FR slate wagon.

Description

The kit compromises of 3D printed parts, to produce a pair of the Ffestiniog Railway wooden bolster wagons. Additional detailing is achieved by FDM printed detailing parts.

The running gear is standard Binnie wheels, with steel axles, custom CNC machined brass bearings.

Each part of the kit has been produced by a process that is optimised for that part.

The dimensions below are all maximum dimensions, so over couplings for the length and over any detailing parts on the outside for the width. The height is from the top of the rail. The length in brackets is the length of the pair of wagons together.

Length – 155mm (310mm)
Width – 105mm
Height – 125mm
Coupling Height – 35mm
Gauge – 45mm

The kit contains everything you need to build the wagons, including our detailed and illustrated instructions. The only thing the kit does not contain is any paints and adhesives.

As with all of our kits, this has been designed to be a straight forward kit to build, perfect for beginners. It can be built and assembled as supplied to be a great representation of the FR wooden bolster wagons, or it can be “super-detailed” to add even more realism to your model.

Additional information about these wagons can be found on the Festipedia site here. There are excellent, highly detailed photographs of these wagons on the Ffestiniog Railway Heritage Group’s Ibase website.

The demonstration model is painted in Rustoleum’s Red Oxide primer, with a coat of Gloss Clear Coat from the same manufacturer. Black Parts are simply picked out in Crafter’s Choice acrylic paint and the bolster & axleboxes are spray painted in Tetrion Matt Black.
